This is so funny. I've been dating my BF now for 7 months. I've 'heard' him several times by this point, but never commented on it...and just prayed to god he hasn't heard me. His bathroom is right next to his bedroom, and he just installed a new top-of-the line bathroom fan that omits zero noise...no merciful cover-up there. So at night, if I need to go number 2, I'd always put a few pieces of toilet paper in the bowl to stop my poop from making that splashing sound...and then whenever I could feel a fart coming on, I'd of course have to clench, release, clench, release to let it out as quietly as possible. It's just so ridiculous what we go through.

And then of course, the first time he comes over to my new place, he just totally stinks up my bathroom, no mercy. Typical guy ;)

It took me until the end of the original post to figure out what TMI meant. Now I get it. Bring it up with him. If he's worth being with then he won't mind.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! SixofOne, I was especially laughing at your guy wisdom! I hadn't thought of the Imodium option, although assuming that we will stay together for a while, that could become a huge problem!

I guess I just need to get it in the open. He's a totally cool and very funny guy, and I'm sure we'll laugh about it. I just have to get up the nerve to bring it up!!

Bring matches! Light one right after you go... it will completely erase the smell.

I have always found that just talking about the fact that you're about to stink up the bathroom makes it all better and I bring the matches to be nice. Just get it out in the open. It's better than sitting there with the big elephant in the room.

Good luck!!!

And totally agree with everyone else's advice too... SO funny by the way. Just laughed until I cried.

I haven't dated in a LONG time but I would do a couple different things in this situation...probably if I had to go really bad after a run I would do it before I took a shower and use some really delicious smelling body wash to hide the smell. In a new relationship it takes me awhile to break the ice on that.

As a guy on here, hey we are just as nervous and worried!!!! More so then you are! Worried about farting in bed, worried about burping, worried about it being too loud when we go number 2, etc. In general we are just as insecure and anxious. Laugh about it, joke about it, and own it. Or, just take a bunch of Imodium and stop yourself up for the weekend.

I really dislike getting used to these bathroom issues with a whole new person, but I've found that just being honest about it is best. Letting him know: "Hey, lets just be honest, we all [make number two; crap; rip it from time to time; poop]" Whatever words make you most comfortable. Once you get it out on the table though, it'll be easier when your runs actually start flowing. You can walk out of the restroom and just slightly embarrassed say: "Yeah..don't go in there for a bit". And then just laugh it off.

If he actually grosses out about it, he's extremely weird. He should know all humans digest food. Good luck! And don't be embarrassed. We all go through it.

OK ladies, there is nobody IRL that I can ask this question ... and after I ask it you may think I am completely nuts.

Be prepared, it contains TMI.

I have a new boyfriend, who is fabulous, and while we've spent several nights together one at a time, this weekend we will spend the whole weekend together for the first time. It has been a LONG time since I was dating someone with whom I would have wanted to spend an entire weekend together.

OK, here is the TMI.

When you start a new relationship, how do you get past the embarrassing bathroom stuff? We will be spending the weekend at his house, and there is ONE bathroom, right next to his bedroom.

Um, I gotta admit that I am worried about (1) sound and (2) smell. We are both runners, and he said hey, let's do a long run this weekend. Well, my body loves long runs so much that sometimes I GET the long runs afterward, if you know what I mean! My only memories of this little problem go back years and years ago to when I met my ex. We always spent time at my house, where there was another bathroom that I could sneak off to when I needed privacy.

So how have you all gotten past this?
