So I just thought I'd share... The ex has paid $150 during the last 5 months. His excuse? He was unemployed for part of that time, but then once he got a job, he "couldn't reach" Friend of the Court, and then after I contacted them for him, his employer supposedly turned in the paperwork so that the money could start coming out of his check (2 months ago -- still nothing).

I called Friend of the Court today (interesting how I never have a big problem getting through to them). No paperwork from the employer had been filed, the ex very easily could have been making his own payments this whole time (he claimed the payment system was down), AND they have scheduled an enforcement hearing for next month (to which he must come, or a bench warrant for his arrest will be issued). The ex lives in another state, and asked me if they would do it by "conference call" (gimme a break). I told him to call them himself and ask the questions he needed answered.

The bad news is that he's bailing on his week with our son this month because he has to work overtime in order to (finally) start paying up on the $3K he owes us, because the woman he spoke to at Friend of the Court told him that there's a possibility he will be arrested on the spot at the hearing if he doesn't pay what he owes (which is the good news). And no, he must be there in person.

I'm so happy the system is working for us, although I'm sad it takes the threat of jail for the ex to live up to his responsibilities, and also because I know my son will be quite upset if he doesn't get his week at his dad's.
